Due to its low molecular weight and amorphous characteristics, APAO can be added as a minor component in polymer modification to control the melt viscosity, rate of set, or the degree of crystallinity and softness of the host polymer. APAO is best used as a PM when blended with polymers that are similar in chemical nature, such as polyolefins, hydrogenated styrene block copolymers, polybutenes, etc., and also of a molecular weight that is not overwhelmingly different to the molecular weight of the APAO polymer. APAOs can also function as the host or major component of the blend and minor components are added to provide some unique properties that an APAO does not have by itself.
